ZAGREB, April 5 (Hina) - Croatia's Ambassador to Serbia, Tonci
Stanicic, has presented a note to Serbia's representative protesting over a
recent decision of the city government in Novi Sad to name two streets in that
northern city after Serb military commanders who were deployed during the
aggression against Croatia and were killed in the Homeland Defence War. On Thursday, Ambassador Stancic met Serbian Assistant Foreign Minister
Radojko Bogojevic, and delivered him the protest note, the Croatian Foreign
Ministry stated.
Bogojevic said that the controversial decision of the Novi Sad
government was not in accordance with the Serbian official policy and expressed
hope that the relevant state ministry that is to have a final say in the
matter, would make a proper decision.
Expressing his regret at what happened in Novi Sad, Bogojevic recalled
that the renaming of streets must be okayed by the Serbian ministry for local
self-government before it could become valid.
