interested in producing pellet fuel, which is obtained from wood waste and used
as high-calory heating fuel, which could create about 1,700 jobs, Economy
Ministry state secretary Damir Spancic said at a presentation of the results of
Croatia's participation in the biomass section of the International Energy
Agency, IEA Bionergy. It was announced that a project would soon be
launched to introduce biodiesel fuel for use by public transport in Zagreb and
that an in-depth analysis of Croatia's biomass resources should be completed by
mid-2007.
The presentation heard that Croatia has a large, yet insufficiently
exploited potential of biomass, a renewable energy source including fuel wood,
sawdust, wood waste, straw, corn stalks, animal faeces, or industrial waste.
