BREMEN, March 30 (Hina) - EU member-countries on Friday failed to fully harmonise their positions on the status of Kosovo as proposed by special UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari.

We in the EU agree that we need unity. We support efforts by Martti Ahtisaari, although there are some differences regarding his plan, Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel said after a ministerial meeting in Bremen, Germany.

The UN envoy has proposed internationally supervised independence for Kosovo. According to diplomatic sources, Slovakia, Romania and Greece have certain reservations regarding the proposal.

Some countries are proposing that Ahtisaari's plan be discussed again by the Serbs and Albanians, which during talks in Vienna in February did not budge an inch from their positions on the matter.

The EU underlines the importance of adopting a unanimous position on the issue of Kosovo as a contribution to facilitating efforts by the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution on the matter.

EU foreign ministers met today for a two-day informal meeting in Bremen in the northwest of Germany. The main topics of the first day of the meeting were Kosovo and the European policy of good neighbourliness.
