ZAGREB, March 29 (Hina) - Capital gains tax should be imposed on
"big players" who acquired large amounts of capital in a very short period of
time, while "small players" who have just started their business and are making
progress thanks to their abilities should be exempt from taxation, President
Stjepan Mesic said on Thursday. Speaking to reporters during a visit
to the Central Depository Agency, Mesic said that the matter should be decided
by economic experts and that a broad public debate should be launched before
introducing capital gains tax.
Finance Minister Ivan Suker said that the matter should be regulated by
lawmakers.
