Speaking of the situation in the region, President Mesic said that Croatia had a good cooperation with its neighbours and that the adoption of European standards and individualisation of guilt was the key to regional stability. Those who took part in crimes must answer for them, and those who were tried in absence must be put on trial again in Croatia, Mesic said.
He added that Croatia continued to implement the reform of the judiciary and state administration and adopt European standards.
Both officials agreed that the treatment of minorities would be a test for countries in the region, and President Mesic said that Croatia continued to work to ensure the return of all of its refugees and displaced persons regardless of their ethnic background.
Minister Hoon said that his country strongly supported Croatia's aspirations to become a full member of the European Union and NATO, adding that he had seen for himself the progress Croatia had made.
Mesic and Hoon agreed that bilateral relations were good and underlined the need to continue developing them in all areas.
The two officials also discussed the situation in the region, notably Kosovo, and Bosnia-Herzegovina, pointing to the need to preserve Bosnia's territorial integrity.
