ZAGREB, March 10(Hina) - A total of 227,510 Croatian citizens
resided in Germany in 2006 and 36,600 have accepted German citizenship so far,
which means that Germany has a Croatian population of 264,110, Hina learned
earlier this week from the Federal Bureau of Statistics in Wiesbaden. It is not known, however, how many Croatian citizens, after acquiring
German citizenship, asked again for their Croatian passports. This procedure is
generally kept secret given that Germany does not allow dual citizenship.
Last year 4,848 Croatian citizens moved to Germany, while 6,331 moved
out.
Croatian associations in Germany had assumed so far that Germany's
Croatian population numbered 330-360 thousand.
Late last year, 316,000 citizens of Serbia and Montenegro and 157,000
citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina resided in Germany.
