Toni Vidan of "Zelena akcija" told reporters that Croatia, Kazakhstan, the USA and Australia were the only four countries that had signed the Kyoto Protocol, but had not ratified it.
He pointed to a bizarre regulation in Zagreb which banned installing solar systems if they were visible from public areas, noting that the logic of solar systems was that they must be visible and turned to the sun.
Croatian and Kazakh activists carried a big 3D yellow star, which on one side had an image of a wind mill, and on the other a radiation warning sign, standing for renewable and nonrenewable energy sources. They distributed leaflets and encouraged citizens to sign the side of the 3D star which showed their position on how global energy policy should develop.
The star will be taken to Brussels on March 9, where hundreds of activists from some 15 European countries will arrive with their stars to try to persuade EU countries to increase the use of renewable energy sources.
