ZAGREB, Feb 28 (Hina) - The Croatian Journalists Association (HND)
on Wednesday most vehemently condemned yesterday's assault on journalist
Zeljko Malnar and called on the police to carry out a quick and efficient
investigation so that the perpetrator or perpetrators could be brought to
justice. The HND took the opportunity to caution the public that
violence, particularly against journalists and the media, was unacceptable in a
democratic, law-based country.
An assault on a journalist is an assault on the public and their right
to free information, the HND said in a statement, calling on journalists as
well as all Croatian citizens to dialogue and tolerance.
TV journalist Malnar was hit on the head with an unidentified object by
an unknown person in a Zagreb cafe on Tuesday but, according to physicians, he
sustained only light injuries.
