ZAGREB, Feb 21 (Hina) - Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt in Stockholm on Wednesday received the state secretary for political affairs at the Croatian Foreign Ministry, Hido Biscevic, for talks on the situation in and prospects of Southeast Europe, notably in light of negotiations on Kosovo's final status.

Both officials underlined the importance of UN special envoy Martti Ahtisaari's efforts for the settlement of the Kosovo issue, the Croatian ministry said in a statement.

They said delicate issues in Southeast Europe should be settled with a balanced approach to ensure the region's lasting stability.

Biscevic informed Bildt of Croatia's membership negotiations with the European Union. Bildt said Sweden supported Croatia's bid to join the Union and that there was an interest for the two countries' prime ministers to meet soon.

Biscevic also met Sweden's state secretary for foreign affairs Frank Belfrage, the coordinator of Sweden's presidency of the Council of Baltic Sea States, Christer Persson, and the director of the Council's Secretariat, Gabriela Koetschaou, for talks on regional cooperation in Europe, in light of Croatia's presidency of the South-East European Cooperation Process.
