Grabar-Kitarovic and Szili said Croatia and Hungary had good neighbourly relations, without outstanding political issues, characterised by a strategic partnership in political, economic and cultural cooperation as well as protection of minorities.
Grabar-Kitarovic thanked Goncz on Hungary's support and assistance to Croatia in its process of integration with the European Union and NATO.
The two officials said Croatia and Hungary continued to cooperate in Euro-Atlantic integration and considered ways of increasing cooperation in the economy, energetics, infrastructure projects, environmental protection, tourism, culture, minorities' protection and border issues.
Grabar-Kitarovic and Goncz also talked about preparations for a joint session of the Croatian and Hungarian governments due to take place in Zagreb in May. Hungary suggested that Croatia showcase its culture within projects that Pecs will present as one of Europe's capitals of culture in 2010.
Grabar-Kitarovic and PM Gyurcsany said the two countries wished to advance relations at all levels and praised the performance of the two governments' mixed commission for cooperation.
Economic cooperation has been increasing in recent years, with a continued trade growth, and Grabar-Kitarovic said Croatia wanted to increase its exports to Hungary so as to reduce the existing trade deficit.
The two officials said they were pleased with Hungary's investment in Croatia and advocated new investments, notably in export-oriented production.
Grabar-Kitarovic and Gyurcsany also underlined the need to develop the transport infrastructure, saying it would boost port turnover, including the transshipment capacities of the southern Croatian seaport of Ploce.
The two officials voiced confidence that the Croatian-Hungarian bid to host the European soccer championships in 2012 would contribute to the development of overall bilateral cooperation, notably in the economy and tourism.
Grabar-Kitarovic also met representatives of Croats in Hungary, the president of the Croatian State Self-Government, Mijo Karagic, and the president of the Alliance of Croats in Hungary, Joso Ostrogonac.
