After the talks, Seks told reporters that Turkey fully supported Croatia's efforts to join NATO and become a nonpermanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
Arinc and his Croatian guest agreed that economic relations between Turkey and Croatia were lagging behind the good political ties. Trade between the two countries comes to a mere 250 million dollars. In this context, Seks said that there were possibilities for improving cooperation in road construction, tourism and metal industry.
Croatia and Turkey have been nourishing good political relations for years, which is proved by frequent bilateral meetings.
In addition, there is a department for Turkish studies at the Zagreb Faculty of Philosophy, and Seks and his host considered the possibility of opening a department for the Croatian language at a Turkish college.
The Sabor Speaker invited Arinc to a conference of parliamentary speakers of the South-East European Cooperation Process, scheduled for April in Zagreb.
The Croatian official was also received by Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer.
