Speaking to the press at the US Embassy in Belgrade, Wisner declined to say if the US government would support Belgrade's request that negotiations on Kosovo be postponed until after the new Serbia parliament was constituted.
He also declined to speculate on the final status of Kosovo, saying UN special envoy Martti Ahtisaari had still not defined the final draft proposal that would be submitted to the Security Council.
Ahtisaari's proposal is an historic document representing the foundation for the final settlement of the Kosovo issue and suits the needs of all communities in Kosovo, said Wisner, adding that the Kosovo issue should be settled with as few delays as possible so that Kosovo, Serbia and the region could draw closer to the European Union.
Earlier today, the US official held talks with Serbia's President Boris Tadic and Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica.
