The discussion was organised by the Maksimir Culture and Information Centre and the Croatian Council for National Minorities.
It was said in opening remarks that emigrant communities played irreplaceable roles in the economic development of many countries.
The President of the Council for National Minorities, Sasa Tolnauer, said that Croatian laws governing minority issues were among the best in Europe, and that the Croatian government wanted to be a model to other European countries in minority policy.
The Director of the Dr Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences, Vlado Sakic, said that before joining global integration processes Croatia should first integrate itself by cultivating its own identity and studying migration issues.
