ZAGREB, Jan 26 (Hina) - President Stjepan Mesic on Friday received
a delegation of the national committee for the implementation of the Council
of Europe Campaign to Combat Violence against Women, including Domestic
Violence, which acquainted him with the campaign and presented him with its
logo and slogan. The campaign was launched in Madrid last November
and will end on 8 March 2008.
The delegation was headed by Jadranka Kosor, deputy prime minister and
minister for the family, war veterans and inter-generational solidarity. She
said one of the main objectives was to engage in the campaign men who hold
responsible state offices.
Kosor said she was pleased the president would try to indicate
throughout the year that violence against women and domestic violence were
unacceptable and undemocratic.
She added the presidents of the Supreme and Administrative Courts were
also engaged in the campaign.
