Croatian foreign minister holds talks with Macedonian officials

ZAGREB/SKOPJE, Jan 24 (Hina) - During her official visit to Macedonia, Croatian Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic on Wednesday held talks with Macedonian senior officials, including President Branko Crvenkovski and Parliament Speaker Ljubisa Georgijevski, as well as with representatives of the Croat community in Macedonia, the Croatian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
ZAGREB/SKOPJE, Jan 24 (Hina) - During her official visit to Macedonia, Croatian Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic on Wednesday held talks with Macedonian senior officials, including President Branko Crvenkovski and Parliament Speaker Ljubisa Georgijevski, as well as with representatives of the Croat community in Macedonia, the Croatian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Grabar Kitarovic and Crvenkovski voiced satisfaction with very good and friendly relations and stressed there were no outstanding issues in overall bilateral relations, the statement said.

The two officials also said they expected bilateral economic cooperation to grow in the coming period. The Croatian minister and the Macedonian president also talked about the situation in the region and cooperation within the frameworks of joining Euro-Atlantic associations. They stressed the importance of cooperation within the US-Adriatic Charter and joint efforts aimed at receiving an invitation for NATO, the Croatian ministry reported. Grabar Kitarovic also commented on Croatia's initiative aimed at launching the preparations for the signing of a bilateral agreement on the protection of rights of Croats in Macedonia.

During the talks with Macedonian Parliament Speaker Georgijevski, the Croatian minister hailed the setting up of a parliamentary group in the Macedonian Sobranje for cooperation with the Croatian Sabor. The talks focused on cooperation in the process of joining Euro-Atlantic associations, the statement said.

Grabar-Kitarovic also held talks with her Macedonian counterpart Gabrijela Konevska Trajkovska about issues concerning the European integration process.

During the official visit to Macedonia, the Croatian minister also held talks with representatives of the Croat community in that country with whom she discussed the position of Croats in Macedonia and informed them of the initiative aimed at signing a bilateral agreement on the protection of rights of Croats in Macedonia, the statement said.
