Milo Djukanovic, a former president and prime minister of Montenegro, said in an interview with a newspaper of the Croat minority in that country that relations between neighbours Montenegro and Croatia had set a model for the entire region.
"Montenegro and Croatia can serve as an example in the region for successful efforts to overcome negative experiences from the recent past and build new mutual understanding on new grounds in accordance with joint European and Euro-Atlantic ambitions to the benefit of our peoples and states," Djukanovic told the "Hrvatski Glasnik" paper published in the coastal town of Kotor.
Djukanovic added that Montenegro was also an example of promoting good treatment of minorities and good relations of minorities with the state.
He said that with the restoration of its independence in 2006, Montenegro had accomplished a historically valuable aim, but now it would be necessary to achieve European ambitions.
