ZAGREB, July 2 (Hina) - The head of the Croatian Democratic Union's (HDZ) caucus in the national parliament, Andrija Hebrang on Thursday refuted media speculations that Prime Minister and HDZ chief Ivo Sanader tendered his resignation being prompted by rifts in the party reportedly caused by a scandal involving Berislav Roncevic, a former defence minister, and the 2004 trucks purchase for the military.

Speculations that there has been a falling-out in the HDZ have appeared since Sanader said on Wednesday that he was withdrawing from politics without offering clear reasons for his resignation claiming that he had done his share of job being active on the country's political life for 20 years.

Hebrang told reporters in the parliament (Sabor) there there were no factions in the HDZ.

Hebrang said that that Croatians should not be afraid of the future after the premier's resignation.

"Croatia is going forward as it went before PM Sanader's resignation... Croatia is a stable country with stable institutions," Hebrang said in reference to comments that the unexpected resignation by Sanader stunned Croatians.

Hebrang also refuted claims about a crisis, adding that parliamentary majority and governing parties in the ruling coalition had a clear plan how to go on.
