According to the World Health Organisation, an adult Bosnian drinks 9.6 litres of alcoholic beverages on average, which puts them relatively low in the world rankings, but if one considers gross domestic product and salaries, Bosnians rank seventh worldwide by the amount they spend on such drinks.
Seventy-three per cent of Bosnians drink distilled alcoholic beverages, while 23 per cent drink beer. Wine is consumed the least, by about four per cent of the population.
Bosnian media report that according to the WHO, the Czech spend the most on alcohol, with the amount spent increasing by the year, followed by Slovenians. A sudden surge in alcohol consumption in Slovenia is the result of a deep recession, according to the WHO.
