The two officials also discussed the situation in the South Mediterranean and the Middle East as well as Iran's right to a civilian nuclear programme.
The problems in crisis spots such as Syria and Iraq can hardly be solved without Iran's involvement and its role will also be important in Afghanistan given the plan to wrap up the ISAF mission next year, said Pusic.
Larijani said solving the problems in crisis spots was in everyone's interest and that Iran was willing to help politically, because the fight against terrorism and preventing the activity of terrorist groups were in its interest.
The latest political developments in Iran have opened the possibility for progress in international relations, said Pusic.
The two officials agreed that it was important to start solving all problems diplomatically because there is no military solution and the longer the crisis lasts, the more difficult a political solution is, said the statement.
With regard to Iran's nuclear programme, Larijani said Iran completely understands that Europe wants security and confirmation that nuclear energy is not being used for military purposes. On the other hand, he said, Iran wants to develop its nuclear technology for peacetime purposes and accepts the rules and to allow the International Atomic Energy Agency to monitor all centres.
Larijani and Pusic said there was plenty of room to develop Croatian-Iranian relations, with Larijani highlighting cooperation between the two chambers of commerce, participation in fairs, the manufacture of train engines, shipbuilding, and gas supply.
