"In the very brief talk with Obama, we remembered that Croatia has become a member of the European Union and that this is good," Josipovic said.
At a lunch organised by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Josipovic and US Secretary of State John Kerry talked about Southeast Europe and the wish that it transform and focus on Euro-Atlantic integration.
Josipovic also commented on Obama's address at the UN General Assembly, notably the part on Iran. He said Obama presented a restrained but optimistic argument about possible changes in Iran and the world's relationship to that country.
Changes have been announced in Iran and now the good words that have been said need to be turned into action, said Josipovic.
Commenting on the situation in Syria, he said, "I think it's good that the story has taken a peaceful course, but there is determination to, if I can say so, clear up the story of the poison gases and to prevent the use of this weapon in the future."
He said it was good that Russia too was resolute about the consistent application of monitoring and a declaration on those weapons.
Force should certainly be the last solution and if used, it should be authorised by the Security Council, said Josipovic.
Speaking of Croatia, he said the the UN's millennium goals until 2015 were noble and that Croatia wanted them too. It is a development concept focusing on education, science, development, and human rights, and Croatia sees itself as a country founded on those values, he added.
The president also met with Croatian emigrants in New York. He was joined by Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic.
