Transport minister receives rail upgrade project managers

Autor: half
ZAGREB, Sept 20 (Hina) - In no transport sector in Croatia are there so many women managers of construction and modernisation projects as in Croatian Railways' (HZ) Infrastructure division, 14 of them, and the success of the rail infrastructure upgrade projects, in which EUR 3 billion will be invested, depends on them, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Sinisa Hajdas-Doncic said on Friday.

Because of the importance of the projects, he received the 14 managers to extend them full support.

He and they believe that Croatia's rail grid, including tracks, gauges, bridges and stations, will be be upgraded thanks to investments and the commitment of those involved.

The minister voiced confidence that EUR 2 billion could be drawn from European funds by 2020 for that purpose.

This year alone, HZ Infrastructure is investing HRK 2 billion in the overhaul, maintenance and construction of new tracks, and nearly EUR 300 million has been drawn from European Union funds to date, he said.

Responding to questions from the press, the minister said he was confident that a Romanian investment in HZ's Cargo division would be finalised in a couple of weeks.

Talks are under way, the contract was given to the Romanian company for agreement and its owner is expected in Zagreb next week, he said, confident that the deal would be finalised to mutual satisfaction.

The government in July accepted S.C.Grup Feroviar Roman's bid to buy the Croatian government's 75 per cent stake in HZ Cargo.

The minister said HZ's Passenger Transport division would not go on sale because it was of strategic importance to the state. Under the new state property management law, such segments will not be sold but recapitalised to make them more competitive, he added.
