He was speaking to the press in Pazin after meeting with Croatia's Transport and Infrastructure Minister Sinisa Hajdas-Doncic and Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin.
Asked when Slovenia would connect its motorways to Croatia's, Omerzel mentioned projects to build a motorway from Maribor to Zagreb and from Koper to the Dragonja.
He said Slovenia was open to stronger road and rail ties with Croatia, and that cooperation could certainly be improved.
Hajdas-Doncic said the two countries' ministries were in touch weekly since Croatia joined the European Union on July 1, as there were many common issues, including the drawing of EU funds for the road infrastructure.
Croatia and Slovenia are willing to sign an umbrella agreement that will enable their road management companies to define the management and maintenance of 24 bridges connecting the two countries, he said, adding that the agreement would be signed in a month.
Croatia has such an agreement with Hungary.
Minister Lorencin said 95 per cent of tourists come to Croatia by road and that better transport connections with neighbouring countries were necessary for tourism development, notably with Slovenia, one of Croatia's principal markets.
He called on everyone to prepare projects and utilise the EU funds available.
Today's meeting also discussed theme parks and diffuse hotels. The former are part of the tourism development strategy and the latter can be categorised as heritage hotels.
