President hopes EC won't impose sanctions against Croatia

Autor: half
CAKOVEC, Sept 19 (Hina) - Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said on Thursday he hoped the European Commission would not impose sanctions against Croatia because of the European Arrest Warrant law.

Speaking to the press in Strigova, he said the communication between the government and the Commission regarding this matter had positive elements.

Asked if he would use his constitutional powers and ask the Constitutional Court to assess if the law was in compliance with the Constitution, the president said he was not sure if this was a matter of constitutionality, but one of political decision and alignment with European law.

He was visiting Medjimurje County, where local leaders told him that companies exporting to Germany, Austria, Slovenia and Hungary had stepped up their business, with a positive impact on employment and the budget.
