Minister talks growth in new employed in tourism

Autor: half
ZAGREB, Aug 13 (Hina) - More than 30,000 people were newly employed in tourism in the first seven months of 2013, up 17.4 per cent on the year, with Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin telling Hina on Tuesday that this made sense given the growth in physical and financial turnover.

He underlined the importance of workers in the sector for a smooth-running and good quality season, saying the high interest for work in tourism was therefore important.

Lorencin voiced confidence that the number of employees in tourism would continue to follow the turnover trend. He expects physical turnover to be on last year's level, with a 2-3 per cent growth in revenue.

According to Employment Service figures, 30,328 people were newly employed in tourism in the first seven months of this year, accounting for 22.4 per cent of all newly employed in Croatia.

Broken down by job, 21.5% were employed as waiters, 18% as cooks and 2.5% as hotel maids.
