All the problems which this region faces can be solved only with the assistance of countries such as Croatia, he said.
Croatia has proven its capabilities, shown that, in relation to its past, it has the strength to turn to the future. Croatia has positioned and imposed itself as the driver of this region, Mignon said according to a statement.
Croatia's admission to the CoE in the early 1990s was a positive sign for its development, he said. He attended the first session of the Croatian parliament as Croatia declared independence as an envoy of the French Assembly.
Mignon and the Croatian parliamentarians also discussed the situation in Southeast Europe and commended present-day Croatia's role in the stabilisation of the region.
He said one of the CoE Parliamentary Assembly's outstanding achievements was the foundation of the international Vaclav Havel Award for Human Rights, which will be presented for the first time this year.
