Slovenian PM expects LNG terminal to be discussed in Graz

Autor: half
LJUBLJANA, Aug 22 (Hina) - Slovenian Prime Minister Alenka Bratusek said on Thursday that she would ask Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann and Croatian PM Zoran Milanovic at a meeting in Graz tomorrow to support Slovenia's objection to the construction of an Italian LNG terminal near Trieste.

Asked by the press what she expected of the meeting in terms of Slovenian-Austrian-Croatian cooperation within the European Union, Bratusek said all three countries had things in common and that she would ask for support for Slovenia's position on the terminal, which it objects to because of its cross-border impact.

In late July, Slovenia voted against a list of priority European energy projects because the LNG terminal project was not taken off the list, although seven Slovenian projects totalling EUR 1.7 billion were on the list.

Slovenia believes that Italy will manage to solve the issue by October 2, when the list will be finalised, the STA news agency said.

According to EU sources, Bratusek and Milanovic will meet with Italian PM Enrico Letta in Venice on September 12-13 to focus on the northern Adriatic, STA said. The meeting will be preceded by a series of meetings at the ministerial level.

Another opportunity to discuss the LNG issue will be a strategic forum in Bled on September 1-3 which Croatian President Ivo Josipovic will attend, STA said.
