Huge interest among unemployed Bosnians in job of census takers

Autor: mses
ZAGREB, July 14 (Hina) - Over 5,000 young Bosnian, who are out of works, have submitted their applications for census takers during a census which the country will conduct from 1 to 15 October, the Sarajevo based Dnevni Avaz reported on Sunday, noting that 5,000 requests were lodged in the first two days of the call for applications and that it is possible that the figure will rise to 50,000 by the expiration date, 31 July, while the authorities have envisaged that 19,000 takers plus 2,600 instructors will be enough.

The statistical agency official Fadil Fatic was quoted as saying that the chosen candidates will undergo five-days training.

Such a huge interest in the job of census takers and inspectors is no surprise given that Bosnia's jobless rate is 44.5%.

The previous census was conducted in March 1991 when Bosnia and Herzegovina was still a republic within the then Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Under the 1991 census, Bosnia's population of 4.3 million consisted of Bosnian Muslims who accounted for 43% of the population (1.9 million), the Serbs made up 31% (1.36 million) and the Croats followed with 17.38% (760,852).
