The projects will be carried out in five municipalities, financed from the European Union's IPA 2009 fund with EUR 1.168 million, while the government will finance the rest. Completion is expected in January 2014.
So far, 440 square kilometres of land have been cleared of mines and 760 square kilometres have been erased from records of areas suspected of being planted with mines behind over from the 1991-95 war.
Another 666 square kilometres remain to be cleared.
The European Union has invested EUR 24 million in mine-clearing in Croatia to date, including EUR 11 million through SAFU.
SAFU director Natasa Mikus-Zigman said the EU would continue to finance demining projects, including in Lika-Senj, Sisak-Moslavina and Zadar counties this year.
