Seidl was awarded at the 2011 Motovun Film Festival the Maverick prize, which is presented to film-makers who successfully fight against conformity.
At this year's festival, he will present the first film of his "Paradise" trilogy - "Paradise: Love" which competed last year at the Cannes Film Festival. "Paradise: Faith" won a special jury award at the 69th Venice Film Festival. The third in the series, "Paradise: Hope" premiered at the 63rd Berlin Film Festival.
Seidl's trilogy has been described as a trilogy of sex, desire and social activism. After seeing the trilogy, US film director John Waters said that God had given us Seidl after Fassbinder died. The Guardian described Seidl as Michael Haneke on holiday.
Seidl himself says that his films do not criticise individuals but society, and that his intention is not to entertain the public but to touch and perhaps disturb them as well as make them confront themselves.
