IMF clears USD 51 mln for Bosnia

Autor: half
WASHINGTON, May 7 (Hina) - The International Monetary Fund approved US$ 51 million in aid to Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday after the world finance organization found that the country was keeping its finances in check, Reuters reported.

One of the main conditions for receiving new aid in the amount of about 80 million convertible marks was passing a law on the early and more favourable retirement of war veterans in the Federation entity.

Without the additional cash from the IMF, Bosnia would have faced higher deficits and borrowing costs.

"Sound financial sector policies are mitigating risks," IMF Deputy Managing Director Nemat Shafik said in a statement. "The Fund-supported program continues to provide a valuable anchor."

The IMF and World Bank have said they expect Bosnia's gross domestic product to grow 0.5 percent this year.
