He was responding to the question from the press if he would insist on an early parliamentary election after July 1, when Croatia will join the European Union.
Karamarko said the HDZ was aware that it did not have enough votes in parliament for such a decision but that it would request an early election because "this is becoming an agony." He said Serbia had pulled out of the recession, "while we are digging in deeper," and that the EU predicted only that unemployment in Croatia would continue to grow.
He said the ruling coalition was fighting "with everyone, the unions, employers, the opposition and the Church" and not communicating with anyone.
Karamarko was in Rijeka to attend a conference of the HDZ's mayoral candidates in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. Local elections are due on May 19.
