"I hope that our new MEPs will do their job in the best possible way," he said, congratulating everyone who succeeded in the election as well as those who took part in it.
Josipovic said the turnout was not that big a surprise. "Analysts predicted that the turnout would be lower due to the nature of the election and the fact that people are averse to politics for various reasons," he said, adding that this should be taken into consideration.
He said that fortunately, Croatia was not the worst in terms of turnout.
"One should also consider the fact that the party of blank ballots, as some call it, won more than five per cent of the vote. It think that's a very clear message to politics," said the president in reference to data that there was 5.07% or 39,572 invalid ballots during yesterday's vote.
