ZAGREB, March 1
(Hina) - Documenta – Centre for Dealing with the
Past, a Croatian nongovernmental organisation, on Thursday evening
joined in the condemnation of the decision by the Appeals Chamber of
the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY)
to acquit Yugoslav Army Chief-Of-Staff Momcilo Perisic, after the UN
tribunal's trial chamber sentenced him to 27 years' imprisonment for
crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
This civil society organisation said that the acquittal was yet another decision by the ICTY which failed to bring justice to victims and their families,
The NGO says that ample evidence was found against General Perisic which corroborated the guilty verdict handed down by the tribunal's trial chamber, however, the appeals chamber radically changed the first-instance judgement.
