ICTY prosecutor's office to complete job with Mladic ruling

Autor: half
BELGRADE, Feb 10 (Hina) - The Prosecutor's Office of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) will wrap up its work with a verdict in the case of former Bosnian Serb General Ratko Mladic, which is expected by the end of 2015, a Belgrade paper said on Sunday, citing Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz.

In an interview with Blic daily, Brammertz said a verdict for Vojislav Seselj would be handed down soon and a verdict for Radovan Karadzic by the end of 2014.

There are no defendants at large or cases in pre-trial. The Tribunal is wrapping up the last trials and appeals. We have only three active indictments - Karadzic, Mladic and Goran Hadzic - and when we wrap that up, the job is done, he was quoted as saying.

The cases in which final verdicts are pending by the time the ICTY finishes its work will be completed by a temporary ICTY body, as decided by the UN Security Council two years ago, Brammertz said.

This body will deal with witness protection, enforcement of sentences, cooperation with states seeking information from the ICTY, and possible appeals in the Karadzic, Mladic, Seselj and Hadzic cases, he added.
