European cotton markets steady on New York futures LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND, Dec 9 (Reuter) - Cotton prices were quoted unchanged in quiet European trade on Monday as New York futures served to anchor the recent tendency to sellers caution, industry sources said. New York finished last week firmer in rangebound local trade with the major market players said to have closed their books until the New Year. Buying remained confined to spinners meeting gaps in nearby yarn requirements. Demand for Central Asian cottons dominated the market, most of it for shipment between January and March but there were some reports of enquiry for West African types. The long staple sector began the week's trade on a bullish note after fresh sales were recorded last week but prices were still largely unchanged, sources said. 101057 MET dec 96
