Fund buying had carried the market to recent highs last week, but the funds took profits and pressured prices lower. That action continued today, and accelerated once December fell below 75.80, a trader said. The December contract settled barely below the key level at 75.68, off 0.51, having ranged from 75.90 to 75.30. Spot October finished 0.72 weaker at 74.78, while the back months closed 0.61 lower to 0.20 lower. Volume was estimated at 7,000 lots. Market sources anticipate similar activity ahead of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's supply and demand report, released October 11, and amid a neutral fundamental outlook that includes a balanced world supply and demand picture and no nearby weather problems.
