December finished 0.11 lower at 75.85 cents a lb, having ranged from 76.50 to 75.55. Spot October ended off 0.01 at 74.80, while the back months finished 0.05 to 0.65 weaker. Volume was estimated at only 6,500 lots. While prices dipped lower during today's session, market sources maintain a near-term outlook to the upside, citing anticipated losses in North Carolina and reduced qualities in West Texas and the Delta, due to ongoing rain. Hurricane-related rain could result in losses in North Carolina, reducing the U.S. crop further and buoying prices. This week's U.S. Department of Agriculture estimate of 17.9 million 480-lb bales for the U.S. crop gave a solid boost to prices as industry sources had anticipated an estimate reflecting a much stronger crop. Continued wet weather in Texas and the Delta is likely to damage the open bolls, reducing the quality of the U.S. crop. Resistance was pegged at today's high of 76.50 and then between 78.00 and 79.00 basis December, while support was seen at 74.50. 161110 MET sep 96
