Hurricane Fran is due to hit land in southeast U.S., probably in northern Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas on Thursday or Friday, the National Hurricane Center reported. But Sharon Johnson of Frank Schneider and Co Inc said there was little cotton being grown in the immediate areas in Hurricane Fran's path. "We have actually priced in far more damage than has actually occurred or may occur," Johnson said, adding a downwards correction was inevitable by the end of the week. December cotton went out 0.91 cent higher at 77.25 cents per pound, traded 77.45 to 76.65 cents. Volume was estimated at 7,500 lots compared to Friday's official 7,492 lots. Earlier traders said rainfall in Texas and the southeast over the weekend may have caused some damage to quality of the crops, but nothing serious. 041201 MET sep 96
