"A lot of people are taking the extra day for a long weekend," said a trader. Earlier palm oil prices had drifted lower following India's rejection of all bids at its tender. India's State Trading Corporation (STC) had been seeking one parcel of palm olein for first half or 5-20 September shipment. "I think prices are a little too high for the STC today," said a trader. The STC bought one parcel of olein on Wednesday at $563 a tonne c and f for first-half September shipment from Felda in addition to the parcel it bought for September 5-20 shipment on Monday at $552, also from Malaysia's Felda. "Prices were easing before the news about India, but the market has risen by a fair amount recently so sellers can afford to back off a bit," said a trader. Crude palm oil cif Europe closed unchanged while RBD palm oil was $7.50 down and olein $2.50 to $5 lower with no further business reported during the European afternoon. Coconut oil finished $5 down across the board after Sep/Oct traded at $740 a tonne a number of times. Palmkernel oil closed $15 to $10 down with no business reported. Among soft oils soy oil closed 0.50 to one guilder down while rape oil was 0.50 to 1.75 guilders lower after Sep traded at $94.50 and Nov/Jan at 97.75 guilders a 100 kg fob ex-mill.
