"The dollar has been up and down against the guilder and it's been almost impossible to trade this afternoon," said one trader. Lower Chicago soy oil futures based on feelings that the market was overbought on the back of the Chinese buying talk were reflected in European soy oil prices. Palm oil held its gains based mainly on the weakness of the Malaysian ringgit's against the dollar. At the close soy oil offers were 0.50 guilders down to 0.50 guilders up while rape oil was 0.50 guilders higher after Nov/Jan traded at 106.75 and Feb/Mar at 107 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Crude palm oil finished $5 to $2.50 higher after Aug traded at $497.50, Sep at $505 and Oct/Dec at $512.50 a tonne cif. Products closed $2.50 lower to unchanged. Coconut oils ended the day $5 to $10 down after afloat fetched $555, Aug/Sep $560, Oct/Nov $560 and Nov/Dec $565 and $562.50 a tonne cif. Traders said dealers were the main participates, but there was also some origin activity on the sell side. Palmkernel oil closed $2.50 to $12.50 lower after Sep traded at $550 a tonne cif.
