Volatile Chicago futures subdued trading with soybeans surging again on concern over supplies while lower than expected old crop soyoil exports during the week ending May 22 weighed on soy oil futures. The USDA put old crop soy oil exports at 800 tonnes for the week ending May 22 against U.S. trade expectations of 4,000 to 6,000 tonnes. Traders in Europe said they were not concerned by the reports of tight supplies of soybeans as 90 percent of beans crushed in Europe came from South America. Also at this time of year all beans going to the mills are of south American origin, they added. "It's only taking three days to load soybeans in South American ports at the moment so we have no problems," said one trader. At the close Dutch soy oil was 0.50 guilders up after Aug/Oct traded at 105 guilders while rape oil was unchanged to 0.50 guilders down after Aug/Oct fetched 104.50 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Palm oil was quiet ahead of fresh Malaysian export data due next week. Crude palm oil cif Europe closed unchanged while RBD palm oil was $2.50 lower. Palm olein closed $5 to $2.50 lower with no further business reported. Lauric oils were neglected and closed with coconut oil $5 up to $2.50 down while palmkernel oil was unchanged to $2.50 down. "They've killedur market, no one will trade while this is going on," said one trader. July and August Chicago soybeans touched the upper 30-cent-per-bushel limit and July soymeal neared the $10 a ton limit on concerns over tight supplies, but slipped off limit gains on light profit-taking. Earlier palm oil players were mostly sidelined following a further rise in prices in Malaysia, despite the lack of export business. "The Malaysia market is up on technical factors, there is no fundamental reason for the rise, just the opposite in fact," said a trader. Traders said palm oil output is coming into its peak production months with no sign of major buyers coming into the market for volume business. Crude palm oil cif Europe closed up $7.50 while products were unchanged to $2.50 higher with no further business reported during the afternoon. Soft oils eased slightly during the afternoon, despite the higher Chicago markets, to end with soy oil 1.50 guilders up and rape oil 1.50 to 2.25 guilders higher after Jun soy oil traded at 103.50 and 103.75 guilders and rape oil at 104 guilders for Aug/Oct. "Sellers marked their prices up this morning, but found that buyers were not following," said one trader. Coconut oil closed $5 up to unchanged with only light trading reported during the afternoon. Jul/Aug traded at $635, and Aug/Sep and Sep/Oct at $630 a tonne cif. "Activity has been well below Wednesday's level," said another traded.
