The other metals on the London Metal Exchange (LME) were less soggy, as the market looked ahead to Friday's stock report for direction. Three months copper hovered around the $2,375/80 interim support area in ring trading before succumbing to long liquidation and profit taking during the kerb, traders said. Prices ended the morning kerb at $2,362 per tonne, down $13 from Wednesday's afternoon kerb close and still further from the nine-month hig above $2,400 it achieved this week. Analysts say copper was overbought and long overdue for a technical correction after weeks of racing higher barely stopping for breath. The $2,350/60 level would provide support before $2,313. Overall, business was thin and volumes slim, traders said. Spreads were little changed, with cash to three months backwardation was last quoted at around $60. Aluminium similarly tumbled, following on Wednesday's weak close. It settled to $1,661, a decline of $12, after first testing $1,655 support. On the upside, aluminium needed to close above $1,680 resistance in order to regain its upwards momentum. The lead market briefly returned to contango and three months prices eased below $680, extending the downward move sparked by Wednesday's options declaration. It finished the kerb at $676, down $4, while the cash/threes were just in backwardation at $1/$2, compared to $5/$8 backwardation on Wednesday and as high as $20 earlier in the week. Zinc prices were $4 weaker at $1,236, just below the $1,240 level it broke earlier in the week to move into territory unseen for 4-1/2 years. It needed to close above the $1,235 level on Thursday in order to avoid coming under heavy selling pressure, traders said. The other metals were holding well despite copper's weakness. Tin was very quiet and prices were last quoted barely changed from Wednesday's kerb close, at $5,840/$5,850.. Nickel was holding up well too, unchanged at $8,080. Alloy was last quoted at $1,545/$1,550, versus $1,553/55. FRANCUSKA BURZA - 05. ožujka 1997. BAKAR FFR/100 KG 1478 KOSITAR FFR/100 KG 3960 CINK EL.
