The court found that on 2 September 1991, together with a dozen member of the territorial defence, in Orolik near the eastern Croatian town of Vinkovci, he tortured Stanko Penavic, who had been captured with a group of defenders in the village of Berak.
Ninety-eight witnesses were heard during the trial which began in November 2011, including eight who had been captured with Penavic.
After the peaceful reintegration of eastern Croatia with the rest of the country, Momic fled to Serbia and then to France, where he lived under the alias Guy Monier. France extradited him to Croatia in September 2011.
