Speaking on Croatian Radio, Pupovac said the judiciary had functioned so far "under the logic of 'do as little and as late as possible and punish with the mildest possible sentence" when it came to crimes against Serbs.
He said it was necessary to find a modality of coexistence but this required an interlocutor and some institutions in Croatia objected to that.
It is necessary to start talking differently about the past, "to start saying how much the government in Zagreb was actually close to the government in Belgrade," said Pupovac.
He went on to say that the incumbent ruling Social Democratic Party (SDP) was the same as its predecessor, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), "because it adopted a permanent residence law that was prepared by the HDZ." He reiterated that the law was detrimental to Croatian Serbs.
Pupovac accused the SDP-led government of inefficiency regarding minority issues. He said the SDSS would continue to support the government only if it thought it was doing a good job, adding that partnerships needed to be nurtured.
