CEFTA Joint Committee discusses sugar beet exports from Serbia

Autor: Snježana Pezer
ZAGREB, Oct 25 (Hina) - Despite efforts to come to a satisfactory solution, an agreement has not been reached concerning Croatia's demand to remove a ban on the export of sugar beet from Serbia which that country imposed in early September, the Croatian government's public relations office reported following an extraordinary meeting of the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) 2006 Joint Committee, responsible to implement that agreement.

The meeting was held on Thursday at the Croatian trade policy office with regard to the regulation to temporarily limit the quantities of exports of certain goods from Serbia imposed on September 8th.

The ban was adopted contrary to international obligations that Serbia accepted and seriously affects Croatian sugar producers who supplement their sugar beet needs through contracts and financing production in Serbia.

The Croatian delegation announced that Croatia would seek other ways to resolve this issue as foreseen in relevant CEFTA 2006 provisions.
