We expect the local elections to show the best result the HNS has ever achieved and the number of councillors, mayors and prefects will show whether it is going in the right direction or not, he told reporters.
Circumstances are fortunate in that the disappointment of citizens concerning the speed of changes taking place in Croatia at the country level have a different dimension at the local level, said Cacic.
He went on to say that the success of the HNS at parliamentary elections would depend on the ministries the party covered.
Citizens are certainly most sensitive to economic results and if GDP fails to grow or the economy doesn't come out of the recession by then, we don't deserve to be re-elected, said Cacic.
The government is stable, it has a convincing majority and has undertaken everything a responsible government must undertake, including radical reforms in the first year of its term, and I expect we will have results, he said.
Cacic underlined the importance of good local government for the successful implementation of large projects.
He said Dubrovnik in south Croatia was one of the country's most potent areas with potential for progress and projects worth HRK 11 billion in total being planned.
He said one of them was ready for launching - the Ombla hydroelectric power plant, adding that EUR 100 million had been ensured for a golf course on Srdj, a hill overlooking Dubrovnik, with construction expected to begin next summer.
Cacic also mentioned the Kupari hotel complex, saying the owner of the Rixos group would arrive in Croatia on Friday to agree on the details of this EUR 400 million project.
