20th anniversary of atrocity against 200 Bosnian Croats, Muslims observed

Autor: half
SARAJEVO, Aug 21 (Hina) - The 20th anniversary of the killing of more than 200 Bosnian Croats and Muslims, who were detained in Serb concentration camps in the Prijedor area, was observed on Tuesday on Vlasic Mountain in central Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Hundreds of family members, friends and expelled Prijedor residents paid their respects to the victims of one of the worst war crimes in Bosnia.

On 21 August 1992, Bosnian Serb police selected more than 220 people from a column of prisoners being taken from Prijedor to Travnik for an exchange, executing them and throwing their bodies in a nearby river canyon. Only 12 of those selected survived.

The remains of 120 victims have been found. Others are being traced.

Fourteen members of Prijedor's wartime police have been accused of the crime. The Hague tribunal convicted Darko Mrdjo to 17 years in jail while the rest have been referred to the Bosnian State Court, which has convicted three former officers, each to 23 years.

The victims' families say none of those who ordered the killings has been indicted or convicted.
