"The sanctity of marriage and family is the sound basis for the entire society. In history, the fall of civilisations was linked to the break-up of marriage and family, and we must admit that the destruction of that institution is being systematically worked on (in Croatia)," said the cardinal.
He said an honest relationship to the fellow man and the people called for promoting the truth and was another prerequisite of a healthy society.
He said many were using their political and social positions to reduce the rights of their fellow men, deepening the pessimism in Croatian society.
