"We can see that we are still losing more jobs than we manage to create. This trend will last until mid-2013 when we expect to have more newly-created than lost jobs," Mrsic told reporters while commenting on their remarks that the statistics showed that in late June this year there were more jobless Croatians than in late June 2011, and also that the number of the unemployed rose month on month, according to the latest figures of the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ),
Mrsic of Social Democratic Party (SDP) whose government came into office at the beginning of this year, said that all of this was a result of the fact that nothing had done since 2008 to improve the situation.
According to the latest figures released by the HZZ, on Friday 298,449 Croatians were out of work.
The registered unemployment rate in Croatia in June was 17.3%, or 0.7% down from May, the National Bureau of Statistics said on 23 July.
June was the third month in a row to see a drop in the registered unemployment rate, mainly due to seasonal hiring in the tourist sector.
The registered unemployment rate was 20% in March, 19.1% in April and 18% in May. On the annual level, however, the registered unemployment rate was 0.4% higher than in June 2011 when it reached 16.9%.
