Labour Party officials told a news conference on Wednesday that the Constitutional Court had not yet made any ruling about the constitutionality of loan agreements' exchange clause although 16 months had passed since the HUS trade union federation lodged a request with the court on the matter.
Therefore the Labour Party has forwarded an open letter to the Constitutional Court president Jasna Omejec on this issue.
The party's president Dragutin Lesar said that his party had sponsored the bill on the revocation of Article 22 of the contractual relations law, which provided for exchange clause. However, the proposal had not been accepted by the ruling majority in the previous parliament, Lesar recalled.
He said that 223,000 citizens had their current accounts blocked, adding that the citizens' indebtedness, that is their loans pegged to foreign currencies, was not only a monetary but also a social issue.
